Your privacy is important to us at StoveStory. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of personal information we may receive and collect when you use stovestory.com, as well as some of the steps we take to safeguard information. We hope this will help you make an informed decision about sharing personal information with us.
Who we are
Our website address is: https://stovestory.com. StoveStory is a personal food blog run by Emma, focused on sharing recipes and food stories.
Comments
When you leave comments on StoveStory, we collect the data shown in the comments form (like your name and comment). We also collect your IP address and browser user agent string to help us detect and prevent spam.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it, so your profile picture might appear next to your comment if you have one. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture (if you have one) is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website (for example, if user registration were enabled, though it currently is not), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to StoveStory can download images from the site and could potentially extract location data from them.
Cookies
StoveStory uses cookies to enhance your experience. Here’s how:
- Comments: If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so you don’t have to fill in your details again next time you comment. These cookies last for one year.
- General Browsing: Like most websites, we may use cookies to understand site usage (e.g., through Google Analytics) and improve content.
- Advertising: Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to StoveStory and other websites (Google AdSense). You can manage your ad preferences or opt out via Google’s Ad Settings.
If you visit our login page (currently only for administrators), we set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
Login cookies for administrators last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If an administrator selects “Remember Me”, their login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.
Editing or publishing an article (for administrators) saves an additional cookie indicating the post ID, which expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on StoveStory may include embedded content (e.g., YouTube videos, images, articles from other sites). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited the other website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, especially if you have an account and are logged in to that other website.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: With third-party services that help us operate StoveStory (like our hosting provider Hostinger, spam detection services, or email newsletter providers if you sign up).
- Analytics: With Google Analytics to understand website traffic (this data is largely anonymized).
- Legal Requirements: If required by law.
- Password Resets: If you request a password reset (currently only applicable to administrators), your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Currently, user registration is not enabled on StoveStory. If it were, we would store the personal information provided in user profiles.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments on StoveStory, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes (e.g., comment records needed for spam prevention). Please use our Contact form to make such requests.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (like Akismet or similar tools) to prevent spam. Data may also be processed by Google Analytics (servers may be located outside your region) and our hosting provider.
